Description

I now have an improved, more movie-correct version here: [link]

I make this hat for others. Send me a note about a comission!

So... have I mentioned I make hats?

Millinery is a lot like photography for me. I kind of fell into it, never thought I'd be good at it, and yet I LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT.

I've only been making hats for the last two months or so, but already I'm head over heels in love with the process. Seeing the trailers for the new Alice made me glee, and so I HAD to try to re-create the very awesome hat.

DETAILS!

The hat's a little broader around the bottom than our source so that it can be worn comfortably on your head. It's made out of theatre quality 2-ply buckram, heavy gauge wire, and of course love.

The hat fabric is a miracle find from the fashion district, black and gold with a black over-print. The hat band is gold-shot mauve/salmon with hand painted gold flowers. One end is hand frayed, the other is cut to a 'V' as per the original.

The hat pins are non-functional (Since they wouldn't work per the design) and have beads hand-picked from multiple sources including vintage shops and former necklaces. There is a hand-wrapped pair of peacock feathers stitched to the left side, and the 10/6 card has been burnt and scaled to match the original, tucked into the hat band.

There are two ' patches ', each hand sewn to the front left and right of the hat. The left patch is hand dyed, while the right patch is the hat fabric set to be offset printed and has been lightly edged in gold paint to accentuate the difference.

The hat is 95% hand sewn, construction sewing being invisible and durable, the decorative outer stitching done with thick button thread. It took roughly 15 hours to make.

This is a real, wearable hat. I'm hoping to sell it on Etsy or via dA to help pay the bills (And go towards more hat supplies for more hats!)

This one is a size large, 23in in diameter.

I do take comissions, send me a note if you're interested.
